Harlequins and British Lions star Ugo Monye has taken another step to help the fundraising efforts of the RCUK 7s tournament in aid of Demelza House Children’s Hospice by donating his coaching fee to the charity!
Ugo not only committed his time to coach the sponsor’s team, Trafigura 1 for the contact seven’s tournament held on the 10th of September but also attended on the day to spur his team on and continue the first class coaching advice from the sidelines. He was also there in the evening to celebrate Trafigura success in getting through to the final of the Bowl competition.
Ugo was seen checking out both the Contact and Mixed Touch games taking place on the day, giving fan’s a chance to talk to him and watch the fast paced games along side him.
Even though in the final stages of the tournament Trafigura 1 were piped to the post by PricewaterhouseCoopers to win the Trafigura bowl, Ugo was there on hand to present the team with medals for their great playing effort.
Ugo’s donation to Demelza House Children’s Hospice will go a long way as every penny counts for the children’s charity; Demelza needs to raise over £7million per annum just to keep its services running.
As Demelza relies almost entirely on voluntary donations the generous donation by Ugo will play a part in enabling Demelza to provide hospice care to over 570 children every year.
Every penny counts for Demelza:
• Just £1 could pay for a child's oxygen mask
• A little more than £5 could pay for a 10min telephone conversation at 3am with a parent who 'just wants to talk'
• £25 could pay for a music therapy session for one child or £100 for an evening's respite care
• £879 could pay for a child's respite care in the hospice for one day
• £1,000 pays for 70 hours of hospice at home care
On behalf of Demelza, Thank you Ugo!
