RCUK 7s Fun Zones

Sponsored by Romax Marketing and Distribution

The RCUK Charity 7s is about playing hard both on and off the pitch and having fun.

New to the event this year are a number of Fun Zones where players and spectators alike can test out all of their rugby skills, with the winner on each of the four disciplines taking home a really great prize to boot. The four skill tests have been expressly created with rugby in mind and are open to both men and woman, young and old.

In fact they are so good that many of the teams may want to use them as part of their warm-up for the Competition!

Strategically located at key points around the event, the three sites can all be found on the site map, click here, which will also be printed in the match day programme.

The four skill tests are detailed below:

Passing Skills

Test out your side step and passing, both essential elements in the game of sevens and Touch. All you have to do is to swiftly side step through and between three mannequins before completing the perfect pass to the last mannequin. Sounds easy? Why not give it a go!

This test provides an excellent opportunity to warm up and practice those trying scoring moves.

Radar Rugby

“Quick Ball” is all that Stuart Barnes and the team from Sky ever seem to say. Well although this isn’t about the ball being recycled quickly - it is definitely all about very “Quick” ball.

Two opportunities – one to pass and the other to kick a rugby ball towards the back wall. The ball is automatically scanned as it whizzes through the air, with the speed of the ball being displayed in miles per hour on the electronic scoreboard.

Why should tennis players take all the glory? Great for improving the speed of both your passing and kicking.

Bungee Try Line

Prove just like Lawrence Dallaglio, when he scored his wonder try against Wales at Twickenham a few years ago from a number 8 pick-up, that having three blokes hanging off you is no encumbrance on making the try line.

Unfortunately health and safety won’t allow us to use real Welshmen but we got the next best thing, an elasticised cord made in Swansea! So see how quickly you can make it to the line to score. Fastest time wins. Although just to add a bit of spice to the event, you will be in direct competition with someone else in the other line beside you. Oh yes, by the way, the bungee cord attached to your harness, just like the Welsh players, is designed to drag you AWAY from the try line.

Intercept the Pass

Agility, speed of thought and bravery are very much an essential part of the make up of a professional rugby player. Test your aptitude on this great bit of kit.

All you have to do is to stand on the podium, within the inflatable area and jump and dive accordingly or maybe both at the same time, to catch the rugby balls being fired at you from all different directions.

This is an excellent way to practise your diving tackle drills, as well showing off your ability to intercept that pass, not to mention your catching skills.
