The Bidding Process - “Coach for a Coach” Scheme

(Contact Sevens teams only)

Bid for your team to receive one-on-one pre-event coaching from a current England International Rugby Player!

By bidding for a team coach in our "Coach for a Coach" scheme, you have the opportunity to get the personal support of a Leading International Rugby Player to give your team the best chance possible of lifting the Trafigura Cup. Bearing in mind what occurred in this year’s Heineken Cup semi-final at the Millennium Stadium, it might be prudent to get some top-tips and some kicking practise in before match day!

The idea behind this and indeed all our other efforts is to raise as much money as possible for our chosen charity, which this year is once again Demelza Hospice Care for Children - Adding life to days when days cannot be added to life

This year we have introduced our “Coach for a Coach” scheme, which ring-fences all the money raised by teams bidding for pre-event coaching towards the purchase of a specially adapted Mini-Bus for Demelza, enabling the children they care for to be taken on exciting days out.

By taking part in Coach for a Coach your team will:

  • Receive 2 x 1 hourly pre-event training sessions from a leading International Rugby player “The Coach”. The Coach will assess the team’s potential and try to work their magic, maybe even plan some training ground moves to stun the opposition! Rush or drift defence will become second nature!
  • Receive Pitch-side support from The Coach on match day (club rugby commitments permitting) to provide last minute tips and words of encouragement
  • For companies combining team entry with a table the evening entertainment (see Team Packages for more details), The Coach will join the team or company representatives at their table for the post event Babicka Original Wormwood Vodka Cocktail Party and Gala Dinner

Pre-Event Training Sessions

(Contact Sevens teams only)

These sessions can either take place at The Athletic Ground, Richmond, on request, or at any venue mutually agreeable with your Coach. The Athletic Ground, Richmond has all the correct equipment, pitches, posts and changing rooms available.

Part of the team package is a complete training kit for all your team members - pre-training T-shirts, bibs, cones, water bottles and balls – everything your team needs to get started.

Place your bids to secure the coach of your choice. Don’t forget this is not just about the glory of winning, it’s also about giving something back and making corporate charitable giving lots of fun.

How the Bidding Process Works

The actual bidding process is very simple and allows you to bid for the Coach you really want. If your dream is to be coached by Tom Rees or Paul Sackey for example, then you have to bid for them. The opening bid for every Coach is £1,250 but over this you can bid as much as you like. Bids can be to suit your budget but each bid has to be in excess of £50 of the current price shown.

Placing a Bid

When you make your opening bid, the system will ask for your name, company name and email address. You will also be asked to tick a box confirming you are entitled to bid on behalf of your company. The system will then automatically process the information, sending you an email confirming you can commence bidding.

The Rules of Bidding

You can lodge bids for as many Coaches as you like. If at the end of the event, yours is the highest bid on more than one Coach, you can only take one Coach, which will be the one with the highest of your bids. All the other Coaches you bid for will be allocated to the next highest bidder.

What happens if someone out-bids us?

During the process, once you have logged a bid, you will receive a notification email if you have been outbid and inviting you to rebid.

Can we get a coach for our team without bidding?

If you want a Coach but do not want to take part in the bidding you can take advantage of one of our various team packages, which as well as including substantially discounted daytime Hospitality and Gala Dinner deals, allow you to hire a Coach for a flat fee of £1,200 which is incorporated into the team package price. However you cannot select a specific Coach but rest assured you will receive coaching from one of leading international and top class rugby players from the list.

When do we find out who our Coach is?

All teams will be notified of their final Coach allocation once the bidding process has finished on the 10th August 2009. We recommend that you get in touch as soon as possible after that date to allow you time to set-up your pre-training sessions before the Tournament starts on the 10th September 2009.

What if I don't want a coach?

In an ideal world every team should have a coach. But for those that don’t want take advantage of this unique opportunity, we do ask that you kindly make a mandatory minimum donation of £500 towards the “Coach for a Coach” scheme which go towards helping Demelza add life to days when days cannot be added to life for these children.
